The original Ōtautahi Aikido Group was established in April 1991 under the leadership of Liam O’Donoghue Sensei. We started training at the old Crichton Cobbers Youth Club in Fitzgerald Ave.
Our founding principles were a technical alignment to the Osaka Buikukai style developed by Hirokazu Kobayashi Shihan, a more democratic approach to club administration and a commitment to respectful and safe training.
In September 2020 we moved to our current location – our own dedicated dojo in the beautiful St Mary’s Church Hall in Heathcote.
